what's actually happening inside the mortals
Feel Anything · Issue #7 · June 30, 2026
People ask me what happens inside The Mortals.
The honest answer is: conversations that don't fit anywhere else.
The internet has a million places to talk about grief. Support groups. Reddit threads. Comment sections under sad TikToks. Most of them are good. Some of them are great.
But most of them are built for the bereaved. For the person who lost someone and needs a place to say it out loud.
The Mortals is different because it holds the people who don't fit that description cleanly. The hospice nurse who has witnessed hundreds of deaths and never told her family about any of them in detail. The funeral director who can't explain to his wife why he's quiet after a bad week. The parent who lost a child and also feels relief and also feels guilty about the relief. The teacher who lost a student and doesn't know how to walk back into that classroom.
People whose grief doesn't have a category.
I built The Mortals because I was one of those people. Funeral service gave me a front-row seat to the hardest moments in people's lives, and nowhere to put what I saw. Every grief group I found was for the family. I wasn't the family. I was the guy in the suit who held the door.
Tuesday nights, 8 PM Eastern. I lead a live conversation on YouTube. It's free. Anyone can show up. The community behind it is where it goes deeper. Where people check in throughout the week. Where the conversations continue after the livestream ends.
Nobody fixes anybody. Nobody tells you to be grateful or strong or positive. We just stay in the room together and mean it.
If reading these emails has made you want to be in the room, here's the door.
July's theme inside The Mortals is the things we don't say at the dinner table. If you want in for it, now is the time.
P.S. I've been writing to you every Tuesday for weeks now. If you've made it this far without unsubscribing, you're my people. Even if you never join. Even if you just read these on your lunch break and don't reply. You're my people. Thank you for showing up.
